コンセプト

Sustenance (Rizq) in Arabic carries sacred dimensions absent from the English word. Allah is described as al-Razzaq — the Provider. Every meal, every catch of fish, every harvest is understood as a direct gift. Rizq in Arabic is never depleted by giving; it multiplies in circulation.

الرزق يحمل أبعادًا مقدسة. الله يُوصف بالرزّاق. كل وجبة وكل صيد وكل حصاد يُفهم كعطاء مباشر.

模様について

Four Fish Centerの線画

Four fish circle a central point, each following the tail of the one before, so that the motion never stops. Provision here is a current, not a store: the fish returns to the water that sustains it, and the water is replenished by the fish that lives in it. Four fish trace a living current around the center.

  1. Start with one fish body

Fill the oval body of the first fish — your primary deep blue.

  2. Add the scale texture lines

The diagonal lines across the body — a slightly lighter shade.

  3. Work the tail form

The split tail behind each fish body — same primary color.

  4. Add the eye circle

One small circle near the fish's head — your accent silver.

  5. Complete all four fish in the circle

Work clockwise — the circular arrangement is the composition's heart.

文化的な背景

The Fish motif in Palestinian Tatreez is documented most densely from the Gaza coastal tradition, where the Mediterranean and the fish trade were the primary economic and cultural realities for a large portion of the population across millennia. The fish was food, livelihood, and visual culture simultaneously — Gaza women embroidered what sustained their families.

Gaza's relationship with the sea has been shaped and reshaped by successive political authorities, each of which has attempted to control access to the Mediterranean as a form of governance over the city. The current blockade, in place since 2007, restricts Gaza fishermen to a narrow coastal strip — typically 6-12 nautical miles — and enforces this restriction by force. Palestinian fishermen continue to fish the restricted waters; Palestinian women continue to embroider the fish.

The four-fish circular arrangement that appears in the Gaza Fish Center motif is an ancient Mediterranean visual symbol, appearing in mosaic floors, painted pottery, and coins from Phoenician, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine contexts across the sea. Palestinian Tatreez inherits this symbol across a continuous visual tradition reaching back to the ancient cultures of the Levantine coast — the fish that circles the center has been circling for thousands of years.
