コンセプト

Peace (Salam) derives from the same root as Islam — wholeness, completeness, the state of being unbroken. Four doves flying outward from a center: peace as active generous expansion, peace that radiates and moves, peace as the protection of spread wings.

السلام مشتق من نفس جذر الإسلام — السلامة واللكمال. أربع حمامات تطير للخارج من المركز: السلام كتوسع كريم نشط.

模様について

Center Dovesの線画

Four doves fly outward from the center with wings spread — their chests facing the center, their wings extending toward the four corners. Salam as protection: the doves do not retreat inward. They extend outward, their spread wings creating the sheltering canopy of peace. Palestinian Tatreez chose doves for Salam not because doves are weak but because they move in all directions simultaneously — peace that reaches everywhere is the only peace that holds.

The Dove of Peace (Hamama al-Salam) is a motif that appears across all Palestinian regions, with greatest frequency in the Gaza and Ramallah traditions. The dove in Palestinian folk culture is both the universal symbol of peace shared across Mediterranean civilizations and the specific symbol of the Palestinian aspiration for a life free from violence — an aspiration that has defined Palestinian political consciousness for over a century.

The olive branch carried by each dove in the composition is not a generic symbol of peace but the specific Palestinian olive branch — the branch of the specific tree that has sustained Palestinian agricultural life for millennia, whose loss was one of the primary material losses of 1948. The four doves carry four olive branches in four directions: the Palestinian aspiration for peace extended outward to all four horizons simultaneously.

Palestinian women have used the dove motif in political contexts since at least the 1970s — in embroidery produced for solidarity markets in Europe and North America, in garments worn to political demonstrations, in work made specifically to communicate Palestinian aspirations to international audiences. The embroidered dove is one of the clearest examples of Tatreez functioning as a form of political communication.
