Le concept

Sovereignty (Siyada) is the condition of self-governance — of a people determining their own future. The keffiyeh is the most universal symbol of Palestinian sovereignty: worn by all Palestinians across all communities, it declares 'I am Palestinian' in every language.

السيادة هي حالة تقرير المصير — شعب يحدد مستقبله. اللكوفية هي أكثر رموز السيادة الفلسطينية عالمية.

Le motif

Dessin au trait du motif Keffiyeh Center

The Keffiyeh Center spreads an open diamond mesh from a central point — the same pattern woven into the keffiyeh that has become the universal emblem of Palestinian sovereignty. The mesh is open: what defines the sovereign space is the boundary between the diamonds, not what fills them. Siyada is the space that belongs to you — defined by the relationships between things, not by a single solid claim. The two center dots are the eyes of Palestine: present, clear, unwavering.

Comment le colorier

  1. Start at the center dots

Fill the two center dot anchors first — your deepest black.

  2. Work the inner diamond ring

The diamonds closest to center — work outward from here.

  3. Fill all diamonds consistently

Each diamond: outline only, no fill inside — the open mesh is the pattern.

  4. Work to the outer boundary

Continue the mesh until it reaches the page border.

  5. Complete the outer double border

The frame that contains the mesh — your darkest color.

Signification culturelle

The Keffiyeh (Kufiyya) is a traditional Palestinian head covering whose distinctive diamond-mesh weave has become one of the most recognized symbols of Palestinian national identity worldwide. The keffiyeh was adopted as a symbol of Palestinian national identity gradually across the 20th century — associated first with the peasant resistance of the 1936-1939 revolt, then internationally through the Palestinian political movements of the 1960s-1980s.

The open diamond mesh of the keffiyeh pattern is technically a woven textile structure — the spaces between the diamonds are actual holes in the cloth, created by the weaving process. This openness was functional: the keffiyeh was originally a working garment, worn in the heat of agricultural labor, and the open mesh provided ventilation while offering protection from sun and dust. Sovereignty that is open and that breathes.

Palestinian embroiderers who work the Keffiyeh Center motif are performing a sophisticated act of inter-textile dialogue: taking a pattern from one Palestinian textile tradition (the woven keffiyeh) and translating it into another (the embroidered Tatreez). This cross-medium conversation encodes a deep awareness that Palestinian culture is not one thing but many things — many crafts, many forms, many voices — all working in the same tradition.
