Authenticity (Asala) comes from the root asala — to be of deep roots, to be genuinely of one's own source. Palestinian authenticity is not the performance of tradition for external audiences; it is the ongoing practice of what has always been practiced, for its own sake.

Four doves carry olive branches outward from the center — each dove taking the specific Palestinian olive branch toward a different horizon. Asala is not the performance of tradition; it is the transmission of the specific thing — this branch, from this tree, from this land — given outward in all four directions. The white and navy palette of this motif is the most restrained in Palestinian Tatreez. Authenticity does not require decoration; it is most visible in the quality of its line.

The Dove of Authenticity (Hamama al-Asala) combines two of the most ancient Palestinian visual symbols — the dove and the olive branch — in a composition that declares both peace and rootedness simultaneously. The dove is the universal messenger; the olive branch is the specific Palestinian messenger — the branch of the tree that has been in this soil for three thousand years.
Asala (authenticity) in Palestinian cultural discourse refers to the quality of being genuinely of one's source — not performing tradition for external audiences but practicing what has always been practiced for its own sake. Palestinian embroidery that is done for export markets or political display is different from Palestinian embroidery done for a family wedding: both are Tatreez, but only the second is authentic in the deepest sense of asala.
The white and navy palette of this motif is the most restrained in Palestinian Tatreez. Authenticity does not require elaborate decoration; it is most visible in the simplicity and precision of its line. The motif that needs no embellishment to make its statement — that declares itself through the quality of its execution rather than the quantity of its color — is the most authentic expression of the tradition.
